Minutes of the 57th Annual Gathering, held in Youngstown Ohio USA, October 1st thru 3rd, 2010

Held at:  Wick Lodge No. 481, Youngstown Ohio, USA

 

Friday, 1 October - Registration and reception. Holiday Inn, Boardman, Ohio

 

Saturday, 2 October - The General Business Meeting convened at 10:25 am.  International Chairman R.W. Bro. John Clyburn welcomed everyone and introduced the current Officers and the Past Co-Chairman, Right Worshipful Bro. E. Roy Harrison.

R.W. Bro. Reverend Ian Nichols delivered the invocation.

OLD BUSINESS

A motion was made, seconded and passed to adopt the Minutes from our last Gathering in 2009.  Brother Joseph A. Fletcher, Jr. spoke to the Brethren about the brochure containing the roster of past and continuing attendees to the Gatherings.  He explained that it was a work in progress and solicited the aid of the Brethren to help keep it accurate and up-to-date.  He asked that it be shared with the Secretaries for review and input.

CORRESPONDENCE: From the Vicar of St. Albans Cathedral, Thanking us for the £800 gift to the Crypt Maintenance Fund.

 

◊  Brother Clyburn Spoke about the gift of a hand-crafted wood gavel and carrying case from Romeland Lodge No. 7080.

◊  Brother E. Roy Harrison hopes all will continue to support our tie and pin program as we begin to accumulate new funds for the care of St. Alban’s crypt.

◊  Brother John Tait was mentioned as having been awarded honors by the UGLE.

◊  Brother Scotty Dawson spoke on the Gathering dates and location for the Gathering next year in Jackson, LA, October 7th, 8th and 9th, 2011.  He apologized for the dates conflicting with Canadian Thanksgiving, explaining that the timing was required by the nature of the events scheduled for entertainment (Sunday Rodeo).  He noted that there would be a slide show at the banquet later that day showing their anticipated preparations.

◊  Brother Ron Block spoke on the Scheduled Open Installation of Brother Jerry Piepiora as R.W. Deputy Grand Master of Maryland and invited the Brethren to attend.  Bro. Ron also stated he would give out pins to all present from the current R. W. Grand Master of MD.

◊  Brother Clair Beckman commented on and brought forth a HUGE ceremonial gavel which Bro Clyburn used for the balance of the meeting.

◊  Brother Ken Thompson commented on the 150th anniversary of St. Albans No. 200 coincident with their hosting the Gathering, 2018.

◊  Pursuant to remarks by Roy Harrison about his troubles with viruses on the net, Brother Robert M. Sklar spoke about net safety and the need to keep up-to-date with a good anti-virus program.

◊  Brother Ian Nichols spoke about Bro. Vince Lombardi and Masonic Brotherhood.

◊  Brother Ben Dyer spoke on the St. Alban Universal No. 233 Gathering dates for year 2014, projected for October 3rd, 4th and 5th.

 

R.W. Bro. Ian Nichols gave the closing prayer.  Meeting adjourned at 11:30 am.

In conclusion:

Men’s luncheon at the Temple was prepared and served by the ladies of Miriam Chapter 278, Eastern Star.   Lodge opened at 12:30 pm, when the 3rd Degree was conferred according to Ohio Ritual.  After introductions of the visiting Brethren, Lodge closed 2:30 pm. Our Ladies were treated in the morning to Whitehouse Fruit Farm and after Luncheon, to Fellow Riverside Garden in Millcreek Park. Dinner Banquet was held at the Lodge, followed by entertainment by the outstanding Youngstown State University Jazz Band.  58 members and ladies present.  After Sunday breakfast held at the Hotel, there were fond goodbyes until next year.
